Patna: Dense fog across northern India has once again slowed rail traffic, with several major trains to and from Delhi running hours behind schedule. Authorities have urged passengers to check the status of their trains before leaving for the station to avoid unnecessary delays.
The Northern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer said train speeds are being restricted in foggy conditions to ensure passenger safety. Low visibility means locomotive pilots must exercise extra caution, a factor that has led to widespread delays, particularly among long-distance and superfast services.
According to railway sources, the Rajdhani Express, Amrit Bharat Express, Vikramshila Express, Vaishali Express, Sapt Kranti Superfast Express, Shiv Ganga Express, Humsafar Express, and several Shatabdi and Duronto services are among those running late. Trains arriving in Delhi from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and the Northeast are being especially affected.
Railway officials stressed that services continue to operate under safety measures such as the Train Protection and Warning System (TPWS) and fog safety devices, but strict adherence to safety protocols necessitates slower speeds, which disrupt timetables.
Passengers are advised to monitor updates via the NTES app, the 139 Helpline, or the official railway website before heading to stations. Extra caution is recommended for those travelling with the elderly, children, or patients.
