Patna: Large parts of Bihar are reeling under an intense cold spell, with dense fog blanketing more than 10 districts on Wednesday, including Patna, Gopalganj, Bettiah, and Bagaha. Early mornings turned particularly harsh, forcing residents to rely on bonfires to stay warm.
According to the Meteorological Center, the cold conditions are expected to deepen over the next few days, with dense fog likely to persist for three to four days across many regions.
Temperature Drops to 8°C in Sabour and Aurangabad
Minimum temperatures dipped sharply, touching 8°C in Sabour and Aurangabad, marking one of the coldest mornings of the season. In the last 24 hours, dense fog was reported in Madhepura, Khagaria, Nalanda, and Patna, while Sabour in Bhagalpur recorded a minimum of 8.4°C.
Weather officials said the ongoing drop in temperature is a result of strong westerly winds, which are driving cold air across the state. “Fog conditions will remain severe in the mornings, especially across eastern and northern Bihar,” a Met official said.
More Cold After December 19
Forecasters warn that the maximum temperature will gradually fall over the next few days. A more intense cold wave is likely to sweep through the state after December 19, potentially pushing temperatures further down.
Patna Weather: Mild Days, Chilly Nights
In Patna, the weather will remain stable for now. The Meteorological Center has predicted that until December 13, the minimum temperature will hover between 13°C and 14°C, while the maximum will stay around 23°C to 24°C.
Patna recorded a minimum temperature of 13.7°C in the past 24 hours. The city woke up to fog, but clearer skies appeared later in the day, bringing some relief. Nights, however, continue to feel distinctly cold as winter strengthens its grip.
