Gayaji: The state government has taken a major step to strengthen emergency services in Bihar by approving a new Dial-112 command and control centre in Gayaji. Until now, the only such facility was operating in Patna, handling all emergency calls for police, ambulance and fire services. The new centre in Gayaji will act as a mirror site to the Patna hub, ensuring faster help for people in the Magadh region.
According to the Home Department, the Gayaji command centre will function with 20% of the capacity of the primary centre in Patna. This means it will provide strong backup support and reduce the load on the capital’s facility. The decision is expected to make it easier for emergency teams to reach people in distress quickly, especially in areas far from Patna.
The government has also approved 132 new posts for the Gayaji centre. These include positions ranging from a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) to constables. The breakdown covers 98 constables, 15 sub-inspectors, 10 assistant sub-inspectors, five inspectors, and one DSP. Along with this, posts for support staff such as clerks, drivers and attendants have been created. The annual cost of maintaining this workforce will be Rs 8.06 crore, officials said.
Dial-112 is the single emergency helpline number in Bihar, providing combined services of police, fire brigade and ambulance under one system. The police headquarters regularly reviews its performance to ensure that response times are improved. Currently, the average response time is around 14 and a half minutes. With the addition of the new command centre in Gayaji, authorities hope to bring this time down and make emergency support more efficient for the public.
