Patna: More than 4 crore voters in Bihar can breathe a sigh of relief ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, as they will not be required to submit any documents during the special revision of the voter list.
Out of the total 7,89,00,000 voters across the state’s 243 assembly constituencies, 4,96,00,000 voters – nearly 60 percent – were included in the special revision list of 2003. These voters will not have to provide any document to prove their date or place of birth. Instead, they simply need to show the relevant part of the voter list published after revision.
However, the remaining 40 percent – around 3 crore voters – will be required to provide one of the 11 listed documents to establish their date or place of birth before their names are included in the electoral roll.
The Chief Election Commissioner said that the special intensive revision process aims to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded and no ineligible name is added. Electoral Registration Officers have been directed to conduct thorough verifications, with political parties actively participating by appointing Booth Level Agents (BLAs) across polling stations.
Over 1,50,000 BLAs have been appointed so far to verify voter details at the booth level, and parties continue to appoint more to ensure accuracy and avoid future disputes over the electoral roll.
The Election Commission is also sharing daily updates on the revision campaign to maintain transparency ahead of the elections scheduled for later this year.
