Patna: Yesterday, clashes erupted between supporters of the Jan Suraaj Party and the Janata Dal (United), with reports of stone-pelting and vehicle vandalism. Amid the unrest, Yadav, a veteran political figure in the region, was found dead in one of the damaged vehicles, prompting widespread alarm.
A heavy police presence was immediately deployed to the area, which has since been transformed into a temporary police camp. Three vehicles damaged in the clashes were recovered, including the one containing Yadav’s body. Supporters of the deceased gathered at the scene, protesting the seizure of his body.
Late last night, Yadav’s body was brought to his ancestral home, where a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team conducted an initial examination. Early this morning, under heavy security, the body was transported to the Barh Sub-Divisional Hospital for a post-mortem. Veena Devi, wife of RJD candidate Suraj Bhan Singh, personally brought the body on a tractor. The hospital and surrounding areas have been cordoned off, with police stationed throughout to prevent further unrest.
Tensions escalated as Yadav’s supporters assembled at the hospital, pressing authorities for immediate action. His grandson has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the police, demanding a swift investigation. Authorities have stressed that the cause of death—whether a targeted killing or a casualty of the election clash—will only be confirmed after the post-mortem.
Mokama, long considered a politically sensitive constituency, has a history of election-related violence. Clashes between rival party supporters, including stone-pelting and vandalism, have become a recurrent issue. Following the incident, police have increased surveillance across the constituency, monitoring vehicles and individuals considered suspicious.
Political reactions have been swift. Supporters of Yadav allege foul play by rival parties, while the administration maintains that investigations are ongoing. The incident has cast a shadow over the electoral process in Mokama, raising concerns about security and the conduct of the polls.
With just a week remaining before voting, the death of Dularchand Yadav has intensified political tensions, highlighting the challenges of maintaining law and order in Bihar’s high-stakes electoral environment. Authorities say every possible measure is being taken to ensure a peaceful election.
