New Delhi/Buxar: Maharaja Chandravijay Singh, the pride of the Dumraon royal family and a towering figure in Buxar district, passed away on Saturday evening at the age of 78. He died while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in Delhi, where he had been on a ventilator for several weeks.
The news of his demise triggered a wave of grief across Dumraon and Buxar. Residents, supporters, and well-wishers gathered in large numbers at the Maharaja Kothi in Bhojpur to pay their respects.
Born on June 15, 1947, just two months before India’s independence, Singh was the elder son of Maharaja Kamal Bahadur Singh, the first MP from Shahabad in independent India. He was crowned at the Shri Banke Bihari Temple and given the title of Maharaja.
Despite his royal lineage, Chandravijay Singh was celebrated for his simplicity, his willingness to sit with ordinary people, and his outspoken nature. A staunch lover of the Bhojpuri language, he preferred speaking it in public life, earning him a special place in the hearts of the people.
According to reports, Singh had successfully battled prostate cancer three years ago. However, his health deteriorated recently after contracting dengue, which caused a sharp drop in his platelet count. Despite being rushed to Delhi for treatment, he passed away on Saturday.
