Patna: The East Central Railway has announced plans to construct large-scale residential complexes for its employees and officers in Patna, marking a significant expansion of staff housing infrastructure in the state capital. The proposal was reviewed at a high-level meeting held at the railway’s headquarters in Hajipur on Wednesday, chaired by the General Manager, Chhatrasaal Singh.
According to officials, the first phase of the project will focus on Mahendru ghat, where an additional office building for the construction department will be developed alongside residential towers. The plan includes 12 Type-4 and 88 Type-3 housing units for employees of the construction department and the Danapur division. The Type-4 block will rise six storeys, with two flats on each floor. Two separate Type-3 towers, each 11 storeys high, will accommodate four flats per floor.

The Mahendru ghat complex will also include parking space for 200 vehicles and supporting infrastructure such as a pump room, fire-fighting tank, water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, diesel generator and a centralised panel room. Officials said these facilities are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted utilities and improved safety standards.

A parallel development is planned at Karbigahiya in Patna, where 56 housing units will be constructed for officers posted at the railway headquarters. The blueprint features a seven-storey Type-5 tower with four units on each floor, along with two seven-storey Type-6 towers offering two units per floor. The site will provide parking for 196 vehicles and include eight shops and a restaurant, creating a self-contained residential complex.
