Patna: The Energy Department has issued a comprehensive advisory to ensure safe and uninterrupted power supply during Muharram, with a focus on preventing electrical accidents along procession routes and at Tazia sites across Bihar.
The department has appealed to citizens, organisers, and procession participants to strictly follow electrical safety norms during observance.
Safety Guidelines for Processions
The advisory states that Tazia, Alam and other tall structures must be carried at a safe distance from electric wires, poles and transformers. Officials warned that contact with live electrical infrastructure can result in serious accidents.
Citizens have also been advised to immediately report any hazards such as broken wires, transformer faults or exposed electrical installations to the nearest departmental office or via the toll-free helpline 1912.
Route-Wise Power Management
The Energy Department has instructed officials to arrange temporary power shutdowns along identified Muharram procession routes, depending on requirements and as per routes finalised by peace committees.
Control rooms will be set up at both headquarters and district levels to monitor electricity supply and ensure quick resolution of complaints during the period.
Officials have also been directed to coordinate with district administrations for physical verification of procession routes and to ensure that safety arrangements are in place in advance.
Senior Officials Issue Directives
Ajay Yadav, Secretary of the Energy Department and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, has instructed all power distribution companies to ensure safe and quality electricity supply during Muharram while strictly enforcing safety standards.
Rahul Kumar, Managing Director of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited, and Saurav Jorwal, Managing Director of South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited, have directed field engineers to conduct prior inspections of electrical networks in sensitive areas, procession routes and Tazia sites.
Public Advisory and Emergency Response
The department has urged citizens to avoid gathering near broken wires or exposed electrical equipment and to immediately report any potential electrical risks.
Officials reiterated that the aim is to ensure Muharram is observed in an atmosphere of safety, peace and harmony, with uninterrupted and secure electricity services across the state.
