Banka: Banka police in Bihar have busted a cyber fraud gang that was cheating teachers by pretending to be District Education Officers (DEOs). The gang used mobile number porting and OTP scams to steal sensitive information from school staff. Four people have been arrested from Patna, Nawada, and Nalanda districts.
The case came to light when Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari, principal of Madhya Vidyalaya in Lausa village, filed a complaint. He said someone was using his official mobile number and government login details pretending to be a DEO. A special police team led by Cyber Police Station head Anupesh Narayan was formed to investigate.
The police carried out raids in three districts and arrested four accused: Saini Kumar, Suraj Kumar, Abhishek Kumar, and Santosh Kumar—all residents of Faraspur village in Nalanda. The team also seized five mobile phones and ten SIM cards used in the scam. The accused are now being questioned, and more arrests may follow.
The gang’s method was highly technical. They stole the identities of government officials and got their mobile numbers ported illegally. Then, using OTPs, they accessed official accounts and tricked teachers, especially by referring to schemes like e-Shiksha Kosh. The case has raised serious concerns about the safety of teachers’ data in Bihar.
