Patna: Rail passengers in Bihar have been given a boost after five previously temporary trains on the Gaya–Patna route were granted permanent status. The decision, announced by East Central Railway, came into effect on October 4 and is expected to ease the daily commute for thousands of travellers.
The move follows long-standing demand from passengers who rely on the busy Gaya–Patna corridor. Services between Gaya–Patna, Gaya–Patliputra, Kiul–Mokama and Patliputra–Ballia are among those that have now been regularised.
The trains will continue to operate on their existing schedules, but with new train numbers:
- Gaya–Patna: 53238/53237 and 53240/53239
- Gaya–Patliputra: 63329/63330
- Kiul–Mokama: 63331/63332
- Patliputra–Ballia: 63333/63334
Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway in Hajipur, confirmed that passengers will need to use the new numbers when booking tickets, though timings remain unchanged. Information boards, enquiry centres and digital displays at stations have also been updated to reflect the change.
By granting these services permanent status, the railways aim to ensure greater reliability in seat reservations, coach availability and operations, offering more stability to daily travellers.
