Patna: The state government will deploy health workers in all 91 Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Residential Schools to ensure on-campus medical care for hostel students, SC–ST Welfare Minister Lakhendra Kumar Raushan announced on Friday. The move will eliminate the need for students to step outside campuses for routine health check-ups and basic treatment.
Addressing a press conference, Raushan said that each residential school will also be provided with a multipurpose vehicle to handle medical emergencies and other urgent situations. The initiative aims to strengthen student safety and improve access to healthcare across residential hostels.
The minister further said the government has decided to open 40 new residential schools, each with a capacity of 720 seats, which will be launched soon. For the 2026–27 academic session, the department received 1,03,195 applications for admissions to Classes 1 and 6 in residential schools, indicating sustained demand.
Highlighting welfare measures, Raushan said the department currently provides scholarships to nearly 25 lakh students from Classes 1 to 11. He added that the state cabinet has recently approved doubling the scholarship amount, significantly enhancing financial support for students from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
Sharing details of the post-matric scholarship scheme, the minister said the government will bear all mandatory educational expenses, including tuition and other compulsory fees, for students studying in institutions run by both the state and central governments.
Under the Chief Minister’s Medhavi Scholarship Scheme, the state disbursed Rs 164.66 crore to 1,63,826 SC–ST students during the 2025–26 financial year, Raushan said, underlining the government’s focus on expanding access to education and welfare support.
