Patna: A group of Indian Foreign Service (IFS) probationers on induction training paid a courtesy visit to senior officials of the Department of Labour Resources and Migrant Workers Welfare, Government of Bihar on Sunday, where they were briefed on labour welfare initiatives, migrant worker protection and employment support mechanisms.
The visiting officers — Aman Patel, Keshav Raj, Vaibhav Kumar, Devika Priyadarshini, Mayank Bhardwaj and Monu Sharma — met the department’s special secretary Sunil Kumar Yadav and labour commissioner Rajesh Bharti, along with other senior officials.
During the interaction, Yadav outlined key welfare measures implemented by the Bihar Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, aimed at improving social security for workers in the construction sector. He also highlighted schemes for migrant and unorganised workers, including the Bihar State Migrant Workers Accident Grant Scheme and the Bihar Centenary Unorganised Sector Workers and Artisans Social Security (Amendment) Scheme, 2024, as well as initiatives targeted at gig workers.
Bharti briefed the officers on the four labour codes introduced by the central government, explaining their provisions and relevance for workers. He said the department also conducts Pre-Departure Orientation Training (PDOT) for workers seeking employment abroad, providing guidance on legal, safety and cultural aspects to ensure dignified and secure overseas employment.
The labour commissioner added that specialised training courses were being offered to address linguistic and cultural challenges faced by migrant workers, aligned with the requirements of foreign employers. Such programmes, he said, not only enhance employability but also help workers integrate more effectively into international workplaces.
The IFS probationers shared their own perspectives on the conditions, challenges and opportunities faced by Indian workers abroad, drawing on their training and early professional exposure.
The interaction concluded with the presentation of a memento depicting Dashrath Manjhi, symbolising dignity of labour and perseverance. Other senior officials of the
