Patna: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna marked India’s 79th Independence Day on Friday with a flag hoisting ceremony, cultural performances and prize distributions.
The celebrations began with the national flag being hoisted by the institute’s director, Prof T N Singh, at the main auditorium building, followed by the national anthem. Singh then inspected a ceremonial parade by security personnel before addressing staff, faculty and students.

In his speech, Singh called on the IIT community to contribute towards “nation-building” in line with the prime minister’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, and announced plans to expand facilities and infrastructure for research, teaching and student life.
A cultural programme organised by students featured patriotic songs, group dances, poetry recitations and a drama depicting the Kakori conspiracy of 1925. The director also presented awards to winners of rangoli and poetry competitions.
