Supaul: Authorities have temporarily closed the India-Nepal border in Bihar’s Supaul district in preparation for the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections on November 11. The shutdown, which began on Saturday night, is set to last 72 hours, with normal passage expected to resume after polling concludes.
Officials said the move was aimed at preventing illegal activity and ensuring a transparent voting process. All major border checkpoints, including the Bhimnagar Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) checkpost, have been placed on high alert, with additional security personnel deployed and CCTV surveillance intensified.
The closure has caused disruptions for travellers. The Bhimnagar customs barrier remains shut, leaving Indian citizens in Nepal and Nepali citizens in India temporarily stranded. Entry was permitted only to those able to produce proof of Indian citizenship. Meanwhile, the Bhimnagar bus stand remained largely deserted on Sunday as cross-border services were suspended.
Authorities have pledged continued strict vigilance, including checking every vehicle and individual entering or leaving the border area, until the completion of voting. Mobile patrols and CCTV monitoring have been activated across all checkpoints to maintain security and safeguard a fear-free voting environment.
