Patna: Abdul Majid Hakim Elahi, a representative of Iran’s supreme leadership in India, has called for restraint and dialogue amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, stating that Iran does not favour war and seeks a peaceful resolution.
Speaking to journalists at Patna airport on Sunday, Elahi urged the international community to intervene and prevent further escalation of the situation.
He said the current conflict had not been initiated by Iran and alleged that external powers were responsible for heightening tensions, in an apparent reference to the United States and Israel.
Elahi said Iran had exercised restraint so far and was keen to avoid a broader conflict, warning that the situation was no longer confined to the region and was already affecting people globally.
He cautioned that any escalation into war could have far-reaching consequences for the global economy, energy supplies and humanitarian conditions.
Calling for urgent diplomatic efforts, Elahi appealed to world leaders and international organisations to work collectively to restore peace and stability, and to prevent further loss of life.
