Patna: The streets of Patna and towns across Bihar were buzzing with excitement as the India–Pakistan match of the ICC T20 World Cup unfolded in Colombo. Fans gathered in front of TVs and screens, waving flags and chanting “India, India,” their enthusiasm reflecting the importance of the match. At the R. Premadasa Stadium, the atmosphere was equally charged as two cricketing giants took to the field.
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and chose to bowl first. India’s innings started shakily when Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a duck on the last ball of the first over. But Bihar’s pride, Ishan Kishan, stepped up without hesitation. He attacked the Pakistani bowlers with a mix of clean drives and powerful pulls, showing no signs of nerves on cricket’s biggest stage.
Kishan scored a brilliant 77 runs from 40 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes. He shared an 87-run partnership with Tilak for the second wicket, turning the match in India’s favour. This was his second half-century of the tournament, following a 61 against Namibia. Bihar’s Sports Minister, Shreyasi Singh, had praised Kishan before the match, saying, “One Bihari will outshine all.” Kishan’s innings proved her words true, bringing pride to the state and excitement to Indian fans.
With this innings, Kishan also became one of the fastest half-century scorers in India–Pakistan T20 matches. His 27-ball fifty ranks alongside record holders such as Mohammad Hafeez, Abhishek Sharma, and Yuvraj Singh. Beyond statistics, his performance united fans across Bihar and India, proving that courage, skill, and determination can shine brightly on the world stage.
