Patna: The Jan Suraaj Party, spearheaded by former political strategist Prashant Kishor (PK), is poised for a significant expansion ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. PK has called a press conference for Friday at 11 AM in Patna, where a former IPS officer and a prominent Bhojpuri star are expected to officially join the party.
Speculation is rife that former Himachal Pradesh ADGP JP Singh, a native of Saran (Chapra), will be among the new entrants. Singh recently took Voluntary Retirement Service (VRS) from his IPS job last week, fueling rumors of his political foray with Jan Suraaj.
High-Profile Additions and Growing Momentum
This anticipated joining follows the recent high-profile induction of popular YouTuber Manish Kashyap, who left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to join Jan Suraaj under PK’s guidance. Additionally, political circles have been abuzz with speculation about Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh potentially aligning with the Jan Suraaj Party.
Prashant Kishor formally launched the Jan Suraaj Party on October 2 last year, after nearly two years of extensive grassroots engagement through village-to-village ‘padayatras’ (foot marches). Upon forming the party, PK declared its intention to contest all 243 Assembly seats in Bihar, positioning Jan Suraaj as a distinct alternative to both the ruling NDA and the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance). The party has been allotted the “school bag” as its election symbol by the Election Commission.
Aims for Development and Social Justice
Pranav Kumar, brother of Super 30 founder Anand Kumar, who recently joined the RJD, has also expressed his desire to work for the poor, youth, and deprived classes through social service and politics.
The upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar have prompted all political parties to strengthen their organizational structures. PK has been consistently taking steps in this direction, attracting several former officers to the party. Notably, former IPS officer Anand Mishra, who contested the Lok Sabha elections from Buxar, also joined Jan Suraaj, though he has reportedly quit the party.
