Patna: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to address a rally in Motihari, Bihar, on Friday, political temperatures in the state are rising. Leader of the Opposition and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister, accusing him of failing to deliver on an 11-year-old promise and criticising the state of governance in Bihar.
In a statement released just hours before the rally, Yadav recalled Modi’s 2013 pledge to revive a defunct sugar mill in Motihari and drink tea made from its sugar. “It’s been 132 months since he made that promise,” Yadav said. “Even after more than 11 years as Prime Minister, he hasn’t fulfilled it. Perhaps he’ll blame Emperor Ashoka or Chandragupta Maurya next for the delay.”
The former deputy chief minister also questioned the use of public funds for the event. “Over Rs 100 crore of taxpayers’ money from one of India’s poorest states is being spent on a few hours of a political show,” he alleged, adding that Modi would return to Delhi shortly after the event.
Yadav claimed the Prime Minister’s speech would likely be filled with references to “jungle raj”, the opposition, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Muslims, and the RJD. “He will hold governments from five decades ago responsible for today’s crime rates, praise the Bihar Police that brands farmers as criminals, and deliver slogans so loud even the rain gods might feel embarrassed,” he said.
In a final jab, Yadav accused Modi of shutting down schools for the rally and turning the visit into a political spectacle. “He will make Bihar number one — with words, just like he’s done in other states,” he remarked. “Until November, he’ll focus on imaginary threats rather than real issues.”
