Patna: Janata Dal (United) has expelled its former State General Secretary Arvind Kumar Singh, popularly known as Chhotu Singh, from the party for six years, citing alleged anti-party activities. The party has also terminated his primary membership as part of the disciplinary action.
The decision was announced by the party leadership, which said the move was taken to uphold organisational discipline. The development has drawn attention amid ongoing discussions over the party’s internal functioning.
State President Announces Decision
JD(U) State President Umesh Kushwaha confirmed the action and said the decision was taken after considering conduct that was allegedly detrimental to the party’s interests.
According to the party, Chhotu Singh has been informed of the decision. The leadership reiterated that maintaining organisational discipline remains a priority and said similar action would be taken against members found violating party norms in the future.
Action Comes Amid Internal Discussions
The disciplinary action follows recent discussions surrounding the formation of JD(U)’s new state committee. Reports of dissatisfaction among some party leaders over organisational appointments and responsibilities had surfaced in recent weeks.
While the timing of the decision has fuelled political speculation, the party has officially cited only alleged anti-party activities as the basis for the expulsion.
Focus on Organisational Discipline
JD(U) said the decision reflects its commitment to maintaining discipline within the organisation. The leadership maintained that organisational interests take precedence and that actions contrary to party principles would not be tolerated.
Political observers are also viewing the development in the context of the party’s internal organisational strategy. The broader impact of the decision on JD(U)’s state unit is likely to become clearer in the coming days.
