Jehanabad: In a major step towards skill-based learning, vocational education will soon be introduced in selected secondary schools across Jehanabad district in Bihar. The programme will start from the 2025–26 academic session and aims to give students practical skills along with their regular studies.
According to information shared by the Bihar Education Project Council, the plan will cover students of classes 9 and 10. Letters have been sent to the District Education Officer (DEO) and the District Programme Officer (Samagra Shiksha) to ensure proper implementation. The council has also chosen a special agency that will set up and manage laboratories in the schools where the vocational courses will be held.
Each selected school will offer two trades under this new system. The choice of trades will be made after discussions between the school headteacher and education officials, keeping in mind the interests of students and the needs of the local area. Once the trades are finalised, the selected agency will build laboratories for hands-on training. The department has already directed school principals to send the list of chosen trades to the education office as soon as possible so that the process can move forward quickly.
The education department has identified 11 trades for vocational training. These include electronics, solar panel installation, wire control panel technician, telecom technician, plumbing, dairy work, and several other job-oriented fields. After all formalities are completed, students will begin their classes within the time set by the department.
Officials say the goal of this initiative is to prepare young students for employment opportunities in the future. By learning practical skills such as repairing electrical systems or maintaining solar panels, students will gain knowledge that can help them find work or even start their own small businesses after school.
The introduction of vocational education in Jehanabad schools marks an important change in Bihar’s education system. It shows the government’s focus on combining traditional learning with real-world training, giving students both academic knowledge and the skills needed to succeed in life.
