Gaya/Patna: Police have registered a case at the cyber police station in Gaya after a video allegedly threatening former Bihar chief minister and Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi went viral on social media, officials said.
The case was lodged on the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sushil Kumar, and raids are being conducted to arrest the accused.
Accused identified through technical probe
Police said the individual seen in the viral video has been identified as Rajesh Rao, also known as Sardar.
According to officials, the accused’s Facebook profile was traced during a late-night technical investigation. SSP Sushil Kumar said on Thursday that a case had been registered at the cyber police station based on the statement of a police officer.
Threat video under investigation
In the video circulated on Wednesday evening, the accused is allegedly seen using abusive language against Manjhi and issuing threats while referring to a recent dispute involving Barachatti MLA Jyoti Manjhi.
Police said the content of the video is being examined by the cyber cell and technical teams as part of the investigation.
Raids underway, says SSP
The SSP said, police teams are conducting raids at suspected locations linked to the accused. He added that investigators are also analysing social media activity and technical evidence related to the video.
Background linked to MLA dispute
The controversy follows an incident involving Barachatti MLA Jyoti Manjhi during a visit to her constituency on Sunday.
According to police, an altercation reportedly took place over giving way to vehicles on the road. A complaint alleged that some individuals misbehaved with the MLA and pushed her security personnel.
A case was subsequently registered at Mohanpur police station. Police later arrested nine accused persons within 48 hours and sent them to judicial custody.
HAM-S party had sought action
Following the incident, Jitan Ram Manjhi had stated that he would stage a protest outside the offices of the district magistrate and SSP if action was not taken against the Mohanpur police station in-charge within eight days.
Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S) district president Narayan Manjhi had also submitted a memorandum to the SSP, demanding enhanced security for MLA Jyoti Manjhi and the arrest of remaining accused persons.
