Muzaffarpur/Patna:The Muzaffarpur administration has issued a public advisory after cyber fraudsters allegedly created a fake WhatsApp account using the name and photograph of District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen.
According to officials, the account mentioned Vietnam as its location. The district magistrate clarified that the account has no connection with him and said the matter has been reported to the police and cyber cell for legal action.
Administration asks residents to remain cautious
Subrat Kumar Sen appealed to residents not to trust suspicious social media accounts or messages claiming to be from government officials.
He said that if anyone receives a message from the fake WhatsApp account or any suspicious profile, they should immediately take a screenshot and report it to the local police station, the cyber cell, or the national cyber helpline on 1930.
Residents have also been advised to report such accounts directly on social media platforms so they can be blocked or removed quickly.
Warning against cyber fraud tactics
The district magistrate said cyber criminals often impersonate government officials or prominent individuals to mislead people and obtain money, banking details, OTPs, or other sensitive information.
He added that no administrative officer asks for money or confidential information through social media or messaging applications.
Public urged not to share personal information
District Public Relations Officer Pramod Kumar said the administration issued the alert after receiving information about the fake account being operated in the district magistrate’s name.
Officials urged residents to verify the authenticity of any suspicious communication before responding. People have been advised not to share OTPs, bank account details, ATM PINs, passwords, or personal documents with unknown persons online.
