Patna: Work on the beautification of JP Ganga Path under the Patna Smart City Project is moving swiftly, with authorities beginning the systematic organisation of a new food street along the Ganges riverbank.
As part of the plan, prefabricated shops are being arranged in clusters of eight to ensure uniformity and ease of movement across the promenade. Each cluster will comprise two large shops, three medium-sized units and three smaller outlets, officials said.
On Saturday, the placement of shops at their designated locations was carried out using a crane in the presence of Mohammad Shamshad, chief executive officer of the Patna Smart City project, Punnya Taru, executive officer of the Patliputra zone, and other senior officials.
500 shops planned along riverfront
Officials said a total of 500 shops would be set up in the food street zone along the Ganges, creating new livelihood opportunities for street vendors while adding to the city’s tourism appeal. Around 250 shops have already been installed and are now being arranged according to the cluster plan.
Once the clustering process is completed, the administration will begin allocating the shops. Priority will be given to vendors who were previously operating along the Ganges riverbank before redevelopment work began.
Discussions are currently under way on the fee structure and the detailed allocation process, officials said, adding that the aim was to balance orderly development with the interests of long-time riverfront vendors.
The food street is expected to become a key attraction along JP Ganga Path, complementing the broader riverfront development envisioned under the Smart City programme.
