Motihari: Two Kanwariyas from Nepal were attacked with sharp weapons on Monday inside the Mithila Express train in Bihar’s East Champaran district. The fight started over a seat dispute between the Kanwariyas and other passengers. The incident took place at Sugauli station and left both victims injured.
The group of Kanwariyas had boarded the B-5 coach of the 13201 Howrah–Raxaul Mithila Express from Jasidih. When the train reached Sugauli, a few local passengers got into an argument with them about seat arrangements. The argument quickly turned violent. As soon as the train stopped at Sugauli, the passengers attacked the Kanwariyas with sharp weapons.
Suraj Kesari, a resident of Birganj in Nepal, suffered deep cuts on his hand and body. Another Kanwariya, Pawan Das Baniya, was injured on the head when he tried to stop the fight. The attack caused panic among other passengers, and many screamed for help. The Railway Police quickly reached the train, but the attackers managed to run away. One of them dropped his bag while escaping, which was seized by the police.
Railway SP Veena Kumari said the attackers have been identified and the police are conducting raids to arrest them. The two injured Kanwariyas are now out of danger and are being treated in the hospital. The Railway Police are investigating the case and trying to ensure the safety of passengers on the route.
