Nawada: A young man on his way to appear for the Bihar Police constable recruitment exam was shot dead in broad daylight in Nawada on Tuesday, triggering widespread shock and fear in the area. The incident took place around 1pm near Pawan Marriage Hall in Mehta Gali of the Mirzapur locality, falling under the Nagar police station jurisdiction. The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Sachin Kumar, a resident of Domanbagh, Mahapur village under Kauakol police station limits.
According to eyewitnesses, Sachin was walking toward his exam venue when unidentified assailants opened fire on him. He died on the spot. Local police were informed immediately, and senior officials including Nawada SP Abhinav Dhiman and Sadar SDPO-1 Hulas Kumar rushed to the crime scene. A bullet shell was recovered, and the area was soon cordoned off to prevent the accused from escaping.

The forensic and District Investigation Unit (DIU) teams also arrived to collect evidence from the scene. Officials combed the area for clues while seizing CCTV footage and questioning locals. Sachin’s murder sent a chill across Nawada, particularly among other candidates who were appearing for the exam.
Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the killing, but investigations are in full swing. Sadar SDPO-01 assured the media that the identity of the shooters will soon be uncovered using both human intelligence and technical data. “We are close to identifying the criminals. Raids are ongoing, and arrests will follow shortly,” he said. The tragic incident has also raised concerns about the safety of candidates attending state-level exams.
