Patna: Political intrigue over the Karakat Assembly seat in Bihar has finally concluded as Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] announced Mahabali Singh as its candidate on Thursday, sidelining Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh and potential BJP contenders.
For weeks, speculation had swirled around whether the NDA would field Pawan Singh’s mother, a BJP candidate, or someone aligned with the actor’s family. Karakat became a focal point of internal negotiations between the BJP and JD(U), with intense discussions over seat allocation. Ultimately, a seat-sharing agreement was reached, and JD(U) secured Karakat, demonstrating Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s confidence in Mahabali Singh’s candidacy.
While Pawan Singh had clarified that he would not personally contest, his family’s political moves kept Karakat in the spotlight. Media reports highlighted his recent strained relations with his wife, Jyoti Singh, and his meetings with Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraj, which further fueled speculation about possible entries from his camp.
