Patna: The Patna traffic police have issued a new traffic advisory ahead of Kartik Purnima, imposing several restrictions on vehicle movement from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning to control the heavy influx of devotees gathering for the Ganga snan.
Under the new arrangement, no vehicles will be allowed from Kargil Chowk to Gaighat, and entry on JP Setu will remain prohibited. Officials said the decision was taken to ensure smooth pedestrian movement and public safety amid the expected surge of pilgrims along the Ganga ghats.
According to the advisory, vehicles coming towards Patna will not be permitted to enter the JP Ganga Path. However, access from the JP Setu approach road to Ashok Rajpath will be allowed. Movement of vehicles from Kargil Chowk to Shahpur will remain closed, and all entry points along Ashok Rajpath—from Kargil Chowk to the Gaighat underpass—have been sealed.
Limited Parking Facilities
Authorities have designated parking zones for devotees near Patna College and Science College, accessible via Khazanchi Road. City buses operating from Patna Junction and GPO towards Bailey Road, Danapur, or Khagaul will not proceed beyond Kargil Chowk. Instead, they will be parked inside Gandhi Maidan Gate No. 10.
Route Diversions and Restrictions
Traffic officers confirmed that commercial vehicles from Agamkuan ROB to Gaighat will be redirected to NMCH, while those moving from Biscomaun Golambar or Dhanki Mor will be allowed limited access. Vehicles usually passing under Gaighat bridge will now be diverted via Agamkuan ROB, Biscomaun Golambar, Dhanki Mor, and Old Bypass towards Gandhi Maidan.
Restrictions from Tuesday Night
The vehicle ban will be enforced from 10pm on Tuesday until 11am on Wednesday, with buses, trucks, Hyvas, and JCBs completely prohibited from using JP Setu during this period. The administration has urged commuters to use the Mahatma Gandhi Setu as an alternative route. Vehicles approaching JP Setu from Digha will be redirected to take a U-turn at the northern end of Patlipath for parking.
Officials said these measures are aimed at ensuring a safe and organised environment during one of Patna’s largest religious gatherings.
