New Delhi/Patna: KC Tyagi, a former senior leader of the Janata Dal (United), has joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), marking a notable political move within the broader socialist spectrum.
Tyagi formally joined the party on Sunday in the presence of RLD president and Union minister Jayant Chaudhary.
Return to ideological roots
Speaking after joining, Tyagi described the move as a return to his political roots, recalling his association with the Lok Dal during its formative years under Chaudhary Charan Singh.
He said his decision was driven by ideological affinity rather than any personal electoral ambition, adding that he did not intend to contest future elections.
Emphasis on shared legacy
In subsequent remarks, Tyagi said there was little difference between the JD(U) and the RLD in terms of ideological foundations, noting that both parties draw inspiration from leaders such as Charan Singh, Karpoori Thakur and Ram Manohar Lohia.
He said the RLD represents the continuation of the original Lok Dal tradition and expressed his intention to contribute towards fulfilling the “unfinished vision” of Charan Singh.
Political context
Tyagi’s move comes at a time of evolving political alignments, though he downplayed any suggestion of a sharp shift, instead framing it as part of a broader continuity within the socialist political space.
The development adds a new dimension to the political landscape, particularly given Tyagi’s long association with JD(U) and his experience as a member of both houses of parliament.
