Patna: Patna Metro is set to take a significant step forward with the upcoming launch of Phase 2 operations, which will connect key parts of the city and ease traffic congestion in densely populated areas.
Officials said metro services will initially begin on a 6.2km stretch linking Pataliputra Bus Terminal, Zero Mile, Bhoothnath and Malahi Pakri—areas that currently experience heavy vehicular pressure.
Phased rollout to ease congestion
The metro administration plans to roll out services in phases as different sections of the corridor are completed, allowing commuters to benefit without waiting for the entire project to be finished.
The new stretch is expected to provide direct connectivity to the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), reducing dependence on auto-rickshaws and cutting travel time for passengers.
Infrastructure ready, clearances awaited
According to officials, the 2.75km elevated section between Bhoothnath and Malahi Pakri is fully ready, and trial runs have already been successfully conducted.
A team led by the deputy commissioner of metro railway safety, Pradeep Kumar, has carried out inspections of the tracks and stations.
Final approvals from the commissioner of metro railway safety and the fire department are awaited, with officials expecting clearances to be granted shortly.
Authorities said the metro is expected to reduce congestion and pollution while improving mobility across key residential and commercial zones.
