Patna: A 10-day notice has been issued to Khan Healthcare Hospital located on Ashok Rajpath after a second fire safety inspection revealed that several earlier identified deficiencies remain unaddressed.
Officials have warned that the hospital may be sealed if corrective measures are not completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Second Inspection Reveals Repeated Lapses
According to officials from the Fire Service, a second audit was conducted at the hospital after an earlier inspection on June 7 had flagged multiple safety gaps. During both inspections, most of the deficiencies were found to be unresolved.
The department has directed the hospital management to immediately implement the required fire safety measures.
Missing Evacuation Infrastructure
Inspectors reported the absence of an alternative staircase for emergency evacuation of patients and attendants. The same issue had also been highlighted during the first inspection but remains unaddressed.
The audit further found that an automatic wet riser system has not been installed at the facility.
Limited Fire Safety Systems
The inspection revealed that smoke detectors and sprinkler systems are operational only on two floors of the building. Officials said the overall fire safety setup does not meet prescribed standards, raising concerns over emergency preparedness.
Certification and Compliance Concerns
Officials said the hospital is operating without a valid fire safety audit certificate. The lapse has also raised wider concerns about compliance among healthcare facilities functioning without mandatory clearance.
Indrajit Kumar, officer-in-charge of Lodipur Fire Station, said a second notice has been issued to the hospital management. He added that failure to comply within 10 days will lead to action, including possible sealing of the premises under applicable rules.
