Patna: Bihar’s caravan bus tourism initiative is emerging as a popular travel option, with luxury vehicles offering hotel-like facilities being used for journeys across major destinations in Bihar and neighbouring Nepal.
The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) has introduced the service as part of efforts to expand experiential tourism and improve connectivity to cultural and religious sites.
Rising Demand for Caravan Tourism
According to the Tourism Department, the caravan buses are witnessing increased bookings, particularly during the summer season. Tourists are using the service to travel across Bihar and also to international destinations such as Kathmandu and Pokhara in Nepal.
Officials said the initiative has created a new category of premium road travel, combining accommodation and transport in a single package.
Patna Darshan and Travel Package
A special ‘Patna Darshan’ package has been launched under the initiative, covering key heritage and cultural sites in the capital.
The itinerary includes visits to Takht Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib, Bihar Museum, Bapu Tower, Golghar and Sabhyata Dwar, along with a speed boat ride on the Ganges.
Tourism officials said the package has been designed to promote both religious and cultural tourism within the state.
Luxury Features and Safety Systems
The BSTDC has procured two caravan buses built on BharatBenz chassis at a combined cost of around Rs 2.18 crore.
Each bus accommodates eight passengers with four sleeper berths, along with 360-degree swivel chairs, sofas, a kitchen, bathroom and television systems.
Reading lights, individual screens at sleeper berths, CCTV surveillance and SOS emergency buttons have also been installed to enhance safety and comfort during long-distance travel.
Pricing and Booking Details
The Patna Darshan package is priced at Rs 16,000 per tourist, covering guided visits and onboard amenities.
For customised travel, the caravan buses are available at Rs 75 per kilometre with a minimum billing of 250 kilometres, plus 5% GST.
Bookings can be made at the BSTDC office at Sikh Heritage Bhawan on Daroga Rai Path, the Kautilya Vihar counter, or via phone at 8544418209.
