Bhojpur: People living in Bihar’s Bhojpur district could soon get relief from daily traffic congestion as the Koilwar–Chandi road is set to be widened into a four-lane route. The state’s road construction department has prepared a proposal worth Rs 94 crore and sent it for approval. At present, the road is only seven metres wide and often crowded, making travel slow and difficult for commuters as well as heavy vehicles.
According to officials, the plan is to expand the road from its current two-lane structure to a 14-metre-wide four-lane road. This change is expected to make travel smoother and safer for everyone. The road is an important route for transportation of goods, especially sand, and is frequently used by trucks and commercial vehicles. Once widened, the movement of these vehicles will become easier, and traffic jams are likely to reduce significantly.
The project also includes the construction of several small and large bridges and culverts along the route. These additions are expected to improve connectivity and ensure that travel remains uninterrupted even during difficult weather conditions. Officials say the upgraded road could also act as an alternative bypass, reducing pressure on nearby roads and helping manage traffic better across the region.
The proposal gained attention after Road Construction Minister Dilip Jaiswal directed officials to work on the road expansion during a recent visit to Baihiyara village. Following this, the Arrah–Shahabad division quickly prepared and submitted the plan. Authorities are hopeful that approval will come soon so that construction work can begin without delay.
Apart from improving traffic, the road project is expected to benefit several nearby villages such as Koilwar, Dhandiha, Farhangpur, Baihiyara and Chandi. Better roads usually lead to improved trade, easier access to markets, and more business opportunities. Local residents may also find it easier to reach schools, hospitals and other important services.
There is also hope that the improved road will boost tourism in the area, as it lies close to the Son River. Better connectivity could attract more visitors, leading to the growth of hotels, shops and other services. This, in turn, may create new jobs for local youth and help strengthen the region’s economy.
