Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi and their eldest daughter Misa Bharti left Patna for Delhi on Tuesday evening, according to party sources. The visit comes at a time when the winter session of the Bihar legislative assembly is underway, a period when political activity in the state usually remains limited outside the House.
Leaders close to the family said the trip is a routine one and not connected to any major political development. Lalu Prasad, a former chief minister of Bihar, often travels to Delhi for personal reasons as well as party-related meetings. Rabri Devi, who also served as chief minister in the past, and Misa Bharti, an RJD leader and former member of parliament, accompanied him on the journey.
Meanwhile, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Lalu Prasad’s son and the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly, is already abroad. He reportedly left for Europe with his family a few days ago, around the beginning of the winter session. Party leaders said the visit is personal and that Tejashwi remains in contact with senior party members even while he is outside the country.
The travel plans of senior RJD leaders have attracted attention in Bihar’s political circles, but party officials said there is no impact on the party’s work. They added that the RJD’s organisational activities and role in the assembly will continue as usual, and that the leaders are expected to return after their personal engagements are over.
