Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad arrived in Patna on Saturday. His homecoming drew large crowds of party workers and supporters, who gathered at the airport and outside his residence.
Lalu Prasad had been staying in Delhi for several weeks, where he was undergoing medical treatment and attending to personal matters. Health concerns have kept him away from day-to-day political engagement in Bihar for some time.
After landing in Patna, the former chief minister went straight to his residence under tight security. Senior RJD leaders, legislators and party functionaries later called on him.
Party leaders say Lalu Prasad’s experience and political instincts continue to be central to the RJD’s identity. According to party sources, discussions in the coming days are expected to focus on the current political situation in Bihar, organisational preparedness and future strategy.
The timing of his return is notable. The RJD has recently faced a combination of legal pressures and internal differences, even as it seeks to consolidate its role as a key opposition force.
Political analysts argue that even if he does not take on an overtly active electoral role, his grasp of Bihar’s social coalitions and political undercurrents remains influential. His movements and meetings in the coming days are likely to be closely watched not only within the RJD, but also by rival parties.
