Banka: A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for kidnapping, sexually abusing, and forcibly marrying a minor girl in a case that has come to a close in Bihar. The court of Special Judge Mukesh Kumar, presiding over the POCSO Court, delivered the verdict on Thursday, finding Lalu Yadav, a resident of Ghutia village, guilty. In addition to the lengthy prison term, the court also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 and has ordered the Legal Services Authority to ensure the victim receives proper compensation.
The harrowing ordeal began in 2019, when the girl’s mother filed a police report after her daughter vanished from their home on the night of June 25. A month passed with no news, causing immense distress to the family. It was only when the girl managed to contact her relatives that the shocking truth was revealed. She disclosed that Lalu Yadav had abducted her, held her captive, and subjected her to repeated sexual abuse. He had also forced her into marriage against her will.
Acting on this vital lead, police launched an operation and successfully located the girl. Following her rescue, a thorough investigation was conducted, leading to the formal filing of a charge sheet against Yadav. During the trial, a total of seven witnesses provided their testimonies, which were instrumental in building the case for the prosecution. The court meticulously heard all arguments from both sides before arriving at its final decision to convict the accused.
This sentence not only brings a measure of justice to the victim but also sends a clear message about the seriousness of crimes against children. The court’s decision to mandate compensation for the survivor is a crucial step in her recovery and future well-being. The case was presented on behalf of the government by Special Public Prosecutor Prakash, while Advocate Ram Kishore Yadav represented the defense. The outcome serves as a powerful reminder of the justice system’s role in protecting the most vulnerable members of society.
