Patna: Maithili Thakur, Bihar’s youngest MLA, has begun work in her constituency even before being formally sworn in, saying she has “forgotten the word ‘vacation’”.
Thakur, who won the Alinagar assembly seat for the BJP in the recent state elections, told she felt a “huge responsibility” towards the people who elected her. Although the oath-taking process has not yet taken place, she said she had already started meeting members of the public and addressing local concerns.
“After winning, I have forgotten the meaning of words like ‘vacation’ or ‘rest’,” she said. “I feel strongly that I cannot delay any further. To achieve this, I am constantly meeting people.”
Thakur said voters had placed great expectations on her and she intended to work hard to fulfil them. When asked about political criticism surrounding the SIR issue, she declined to comment directly on her opponents.
“I don’t want to say anything about the opposition,” she said. “My job is to work for the development of my constituency.”
