Patna: The Municipal Commissioner of Patna Municipal Corporation on Wednesday, reviewed the progress of ongoing drainage and road development works at Mandiri Drain and Khatal Gali, as part of efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve living conditions in the area. The inspection focused on construction standards, timelines and compliance with technical norms.
Accompanied by senior officials and representatives of the executing agencies, the commissioner assessed the quality of work on site and directed teams to complete the projects within the stipulated schedule without compromising on safety or durability. Issues encountered during construction were discussed, with instructions issued for their swift resolution.
The Mandiri Drain project, now in its final phase, includes the construction of a 1,289-metre road built over the drain, expected to offer direct connectivity between the Income Tax area and Ashok Rajpath. Officials say the new corridor will serve as an alternative route for commuters and help reduce congestion in surrounding neighbourhoods. The scheme also provides for a service road, integrated utility ducts and improved drainage infrastructure.
To support long-term maintenance, ramps and de-silting chambers are being installed, while sluice gates are designed to regulate water flow and prevent waterlogging during heavy rainfall. Street lighting and landscaping are also underway to enhance safety and improve the visual character of the stretch.
During the visit, the commissioner also reviewed works in Khatal Gali, located behind Ladies Stephen Hall, where road repairs and public space upgrades are being carried out. The area is set to feature artistic wall paintings and newly developed green belts aimed at creating a cleaner, safer and more attractive environment, aligning with broader plans for urban renewal and environmental sustainability across the city.
Officials indicated that both projects are nearing completion and are expected to be opened for public use soon, marking a significant step in strengthening the city’s drainage network and neighbourhood infrastructure.
