Patna: Railways has extended the route of two MEMU passenger trains in north Bihar, with services now running beyond Raxaul to Narkatiaganj and Sikta from May 18, according to East Central Railway.
The extended services include Train No. 63373/63374 Darbhanga-Raxaul MEMU, which will now operate up to Narkatiaganj, and Train No. 63313/63314 Muzaffarpur-Raxaul MEMU, which has been extended up to Sikta.
The new routes were inaugurated at Narkatiaganj station by Satish Chandra Dubey and Sunil Kumar, who flagged off a special inaugural train. Samriddh Verma was also present at the event.
Expanded Connectivity
Railway officials said the route extension is intended to improve access for residents of Narkatiaganj, Sikta and surrounding areas, especially those travelling regularly to Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur.
The move is expected to benefit daily commuters, students and traders by reducing travel gaps in the western section of the state and improving last-mile rail access.
Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj Service
Train No. 63373 will continue to depart from Darbhanga at 6.45pm and reach Raxaul at 11.40pm. It will then leave for Narkatiaganj at 11.55pm, stopping at Bhelwa, Sikta, Marjadwa and Gokula before arriving at 1.55am.
The return service, Train No. 63374, will begin from Narkatiaganj at 2.35am from May 19 and reach Darbhanga at 8.45am via Raxaul.
Muzaffarpur-Sikta Service
Train No. 63313 will leave Muzaffarpur at 6.40pm and arrive at Raxaul at 10.45pm. It will then depart for Sikta at 11pm, halting at Bhelwa and arriving at 11.55pm.
The return service, Train No. 63314, will start from Sikta at 4am from May 19 and reach Muzaffarpur at 9.35am after scheduled halts.
Railway Statement
In a statement, East Central Railway said the operational extension was aimed at improving passenger convenience and strengthening regional transport links.
Officials said the expansion would also support local business activity by improving connectivity between smaller stations and major urban centres in north Bihar.
