Gayaji: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Gayaji on Friday to launch a series of big projects for Bihar. The main attraction will be the inauguration of the state’s first six-lane bridge over the Ganga, along with new train services and health facilities. The total value of the projects is over Rs 13,000 crore.
Among the projects to be opened are the Aunta–Simaria bridge, the Bakhtiyarpur–Mokama section of NH-31, the 660MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant, the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, sewerage projects in Munger, and the Bikramganj–Dumrao road. Modi will also flag off the Amrit Bharat Express and a Buddhist circuit train linking Vaishali, Rajgir, Gayaji and Koderma.
The new bridge, 8.15km long and costing Rs 1,870 crore, is the widest six-lane bridge in India at 34 metres. Built beside the old Rajendra Setu, it will reduce the distance between north and south Bihar by 100km and improve travel towards Jharkhand, Assam and West Bengal.
Before 2005, Bihar had only four bridges on the Ganga. Since then, 14 more have been built, including Ara–Chhapra and JP Setu. Many others are under construction. Officials say these new projects will greatly boost connectivity, health services and economic growth in the state.
