Siwan: A 28-year-old Assistant Technical Manager in Bihar’s agriculture department was found dead in her rented accommodation in Siwan district, police said on Tuesday, in an incident that has prompted questions from her family over the circumstances surrounding her death.
Srishti Kumari, originally from Vaishali district, was discovered in her room in the Laxmipur locality near Siswan Dhala under the jurisdiction of the Nagar Police Station in Siwan. Police said a handwritten note was recovered from the scene in which she reportedly wrote: “I didn’t want to do this. I couldn’t handle it. Mom, forgive me; I caused you trouble.”
Kumari had been posted since March 2023 as an Assistant Technical Manager in the agriculture department’s office in Sahuli Chatti under Hasanpura block.
According to police officials, her body was found inside her rented room. Investigators said they had seized the note but were also examining its authenticity, adding that all angles were being considered.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and the note is under investigation. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the report. We are looking into the case from all possible angles,” said Avinash Kumar, the station house officer of Nagar Police Station.
Her brother, Ashutosh Kumar, said she had travelled to Siwan from Hajipur on Monday evening by the Maurya Express. He said the family last spoke to her around 9pm that night, after which her phone became unreachable.
“When we couldn’t reach her the next morning, we informed the landlord. A neighbour went to her room and found the door unlatched. Her body was inside,” he said, adding that the family did not believe she had been under mental distress.
Police also noted that the room door was not bolted from the inside, and said forensic and handwriting analysis were underway in relation to the note recovered from the scene.
Kumari’s mother travelled to Siwan after being informed of her daughter’s death and was seen in a state of extreme distress, according to eyewitness accounts. She reportedly insisted on taking her daughter’s body to the Khatu Shyam Temple, believing it might offer solace.
Kumari had completed her studies in Vaishali district and was posted in Hasanpura block. She had earlier travelled from Hajipur before the incident.
Police said the investigation was continuing and that the post-mortem report would be key in determining the circumstances of her death.
