Muzaffarpur: The Muzaffarpur administration has sealed two private hospitals in Damodarpur and Kolhua Dadar after inspections found violations of safety norms, officials said on Tuesday.
The action is part of an ongoing drive to review safety arrangements at private healthcare facilities following the deadly fire incident at Prasad Hospital in Muzaffarpur.
Deficiencies Found During Inspection
Officials said a joint inspection of private hospitals operating in Bairiya, Damodarpur, Chainpur and nearby areas was conducted on Monday under the leadership of Western Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akanksha Anand.
During the inspection, authorities found several shortcomings related to fire safety measures, infrastructure compliance and other mandatory requirements. Based on the findings, the administration ordered action against the hospitals concerned.
Hospitals Failed to Meet Safety Norms
According to officials, patient safety remains the administration’s top priority. Hospitals found operating without adequate fire protection systems, building safety compliance and other essential safeguards faced strict action.
As a result, the two private hospitals located in Damodarpur and Kolhua Dadar were sealed.
District-Wide Crackdown Underway
The administration has launched a district-wide inspection campaign targeting private healthcare facilities after the Prasad Hospital fire raised concerns over safety preparedness.
Officials have warned that any negligence in adhering to prescribed safety standards will invite stringent action.
Local sources said the intensified inspections have created concern among several private hospital operators, with some reportedly removing signboards and banners amid fears of enforcement action.
Health Officials Present During Action
The sealing operation was carried out in the presence of PHC In-charge Dr Piyush Raj, BDO Dr Anand Kumar Vibhuti, Health Manager Pushkar Kumar and other officials from the health and administrative departments.
