Rajgir: Nalanda University is set to hold its second convocation ceremony on March 31 at its permanent campus in Rajgir, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s modern revival.
The ceremony will be attended by Droupadi Murmu, who will preside as chief guest and deliver the convocation address. She is also expected to confer degrees and award gold medals to meritorious students.
This will be the first convocation to be held at the university’s new campus, inaugurated by Narendra Modi in June 2024. It also marks only the second convocation since the university’s revival, the first having been held in 2016.
Other dignitaries expected to attend include Bihar governor Syed Ata Hasnain, chief minister Nitish Kumar, and external affairs minister S. Jaishankar.
During the ceremony, the president will also inaugurate a new 2,000-seat auditorium, Vishwamitralaya, at the campus.
Students from postgraduate and doctoral programmes representing multiple countries, including Vietnam, Bhutan, Indonesia and Kenya, are expected to receive their degrees in person. The convocation will see the awarding of 10 PhD degrees and 36 gold medals.
The event will also feature the launch of “Manjiri”, an alumni magazine curated by students, documenting the journeys of graduates since the university’s first batch.
In addition, the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies will be formally launched, aimed at strengthening academic collaboration and cultural exchange between India and ASEAN nations.
The convocation, being held after a gap of nearly a decade, is expected to draw participation from students, faculty and dignitaries from across the world.
