Patna: Indian cricket’s emerging talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi celebrated his 15th birthday on Thursday, marking a significant milestone that makes him eligible for international cricket and brings him a step closer to representing India national cricket team.
Born on March 27, 2011, the Bihar-born batter has quickly risen through the ranks, earning attention for his aggressive style and record-breaking performances at the youth level. His Indian Premier League franchise, Rajasthan Royals, marked the occasion by sharing a video inviting him to celebrate with teammates, as anticipation builds for his appearance in the upcoming IPL season.
Suryavanshi has already shown confidence beyond his years. When asked about his goals for IPL 2026, including whether he was targeting the Orange Cap, he joked that he aimed to score “2,000–3,000 runs” — a remark that drew laughter but reflected his fearless mindset.
Record-breaking rise
The teenager’s achievements in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup have placed him firmly in the spotlight. His remarkable 175-run innings in the final included 15 fours and 15 sixes, with 150 runs coming purely from boundaries, helping India post a massive total of 411.
That performance earned him both Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament — making him the first cricketer to claim both honours in the same Under-19 World Cup.
Suryavanshi also set a new benchmark for boundary hitting in Youth ODIs, surpassing Hasitha Boyagoda’s previous record. His dominance extended across the tournament, where he smashed 30 sixes — the most in a single edition — overtaking Dewald Brevis.

Breaking Indian and global records
The young batter has rewritten several records in youth cricket. He became India U-19’s highest run-scorer in Youth ODIs, amassing 1,412 runs in just 25 matches, surpassing Vijay Zol.
His century in the World Cup final came off just 55 balls, making it the second-fastest in the tournament’s history, behind Will Malaizchuk.
Suryavanshi’s 175-run knock is also the highest individual score in an Under-19 World Cup final, overtaking Unmukt Chand’s unbeaten 111 in 2012. It even surpassed records in senior ICC finals, going past Alyssa Healy’s 170 in the 2022 Women’s World Cup final.
IPL ambitions and future goals
Having joined Rajasthan Royals last year, Suryavanshi has already impressed within the franchise setup. He is regarded as one of the youngest players to make a mark with a century in the IPL, underlining his potential at the highest level.
Speaking at the BCCI Naman Awards, he emphasised team success over personal milestones. “My goal is to win a trophy for my team,” he said. “That will benefit the franchise and improve my performance.”
As he turns 15, expectations around Suryavanshi continue to grow. With eligibility for international cricket now in place and an IPL season ahead, Indian cricket may soon witness the rise of one of its youngest stars on the global stage.
