Patna: On the second day of Sharad Navratri, devotees across India are worshipping Goddess Brahmacharini, the embodiment of simplicity, self-control and inner strength.
The day coincides with Hasta Nakshatra and is marked by a conjunction of Brahma Yoga and Dwi Pushkar Yoga. According to astrologers, Dwi Pushkar Yoga is in effect from 1.40pm on Monday until 4.51am on Tuesday, while Brahma Yoga will last until 8.23pm on Monday.
Astrological forecasts suggest that Aries natives may experience harmony in family life and gains from past investments, while Virgo natives are advised caution as disputes may arise within the household.
The significance of Brahmacharini
Brahmacharini, the second manifestation of the nine forms of Goddess Durga, is revered for her steadfastness in meditation and penance. Her name translates as “one who practices austerity”. She is regarded as a symbol of peace and devotion, believed to grant resilience during hardship and to remove obstacles in the path of spiritual seekers.
Devotees consider her worship especially beneficial for those striving to enhance their skills or remain resolute in challenging circumstances.
Rituals and offerings
Traditional rituals for worship involve offering flowers while meditating on her form, followed by a ritual bath of Panchamrit — a mixture of five sacred substances. Devotees present white and fragrant flowers, kumkum, vermilion, rice and lotus blossoms in prayer.
The goddess is said to favour sugar, sweets and milk-based offerings, which are placed before her along with Panchamrit as bhog (sacred food). Iconography depicts her dressed in a white sari, holding a rosary in one hand and a water pot in the other.
