Patna: Four days after the death of a NEET aspirant at a girls’ hostel in Patna, a post-mortem report released on Thursday has confirmed that the student was sexually assaulted, police said. The findings have intensified scrutiny of the case, which has triggered protests and unrest in the city.
Officials said the report has been sent to AIIMS Patna for a second medical opinion. The post-mortem was conducted by a medical board and videographed, and statements have been recorded from all doctors involved in the student’s treatment.
To prevent any tampering with evidence at the hostel, police arrested the warden, Manish Ranjan. Investigators said the scope of the inquiry had been widened, with police now examining events beyond Patna and extending the investigation to Jehanabad district. More than 100 CCTV cameras have been checked, and footage from all routes the student is believed to have taken has been collected.

The student’s father has accused individuals associated with the hostel of rape and murder, allegations that police say are under investigation. Since the incident, the hostel has been sealed and all residents have vacated the premises. Police said many students were reluctant to record statements, citing fear, while residents in the surrounding area were also unwilling to speak.
The student had been living at the hostel for about two and a half years.
Public anger has grown in recent days. Earlier this week, police used batons to disperse family members and supporters protesting over the death. The Shambhu Girls’ Hostel was later vandalised, with masked individuals pelting stones and setting fire to parts of the building. Police said a case was registered after videos of the arson circulated on social media.
