Patna: Hundreds of soldiers gathered at the Bihar Regiment Centre in Danapur, near Patna, on Thursday to pay tribute to fallen comrades as the Indian Army marked its 77th Army Day.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the centre’s war memorial, where officers, junior commissioned officers and soldiers observed a solemn moment of remembrance for those who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
Army Day is observed annually on January 15 to commemorate the day in 1949 when Field Marshal K M Cariappa became the first Indian to take over as commander-in-chief of the Indian Army, succeeding British officers after independence.

The day is marked across the country with parades, ceremonial marches and commemorative events at military stations and higher headquarters, reflecting on the army’s legacy and honouring its personnel.
At Danapur, floral tributes were offered by Major Hasan Khan, Subedar Major Naveen Kumar, centre subedar major Subedar Upendra Kumar Singh, Subedar Dandpal and other members of the regiment. The ceremony was accompanied by the regimental band, which played patriotic compositions including Vande Mataram and the regiment’s own song, lending a formal and reflective tone to the proceedings at the Bihar Regiment Centre.
