Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation has approved the renaming of nine roads and five parks across the city, following decisions taken at recent meetings of its empowered standing committee.

A stretch linking Nand Gola Main Road on Ashok Rajpath, from the residence of Dr Vijay Kant Sharma to that of former councillor and social worker Ram Kumar, has been renamed Former Councillor Shri Ram Kumar Path.
Several other roads have been named after public figures and local leaders. The road from the main gate of Krishnapuri Park to LF Flat Park will be called Justice Indu Prabha Singh Path, while a road in Ward 72 connecting Ashok Rajpath to Sahadra Chowk has been named Nathuni Ram Yadav Path, after the former councillor and senior social worker.
In Digha constituency, the road between Ashiana Digha Road and Akashwani Road has been renamed Mundar Sah Path. Additional changes include the renaming of a road near Kendriya Vidyalaya in Ward 44 as Yadunandan Prasad Marg, and Sudha Devi Lane (Road No 1-A) in East Indranagar being designated East Indra Nagar.
The committee also approved new names for five city parks. A park in Patliputra Colony, which already houses a statue of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has been renamed Atal Park. Parks in Chitkohra Punjabi Colony and New Punaichak have been named Guru Gobind Singh Park and Bhama Shah Park respectively, both reflecting existing statues at the sites. Another park in Doctor Colony, south of Jeevak Heart Hospital, will now bear the name of freedom fighter Chandrama Singh, while a park on Road No 6-B in Rajendra Nagar has been named Dr Sharda Sinha–Dr Brajkishore Sinha Garden.
Municipal officials said the changes would be communicated to the postal department following formal approval, adding that two meetings of the empowered standing committee had been held in the past month to finalise the decisions.
