Patna: Bihar Health Minister and MLC Nishant Kumar delivered his maiden speech in the Legislative Council on Monday during the opening day of the Bihar Assembly’s monsoon session, outlining the achievements of the state government over the past 20 years and promising to carry forward the work initiated by his father, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The proceedings of the first day of the monsoon session witnessed protests by the opposition before the House was adjourned until 11 am on Tuesday.
Highlights Two Decades Of Governance
Addressing the House for the first time, Nishant Kumar said the Bihar government had worked across sectors including education, healthcare and employment over the last two decades.
He said the government’s welfare initiatives had benefited Dalits, Mahadalits, backward and extremely backward classes, labourers, women and young people.
According to Nishant Kumar, Bihar has emerged as a model for the country in areas such as women’s empowerment, the implementation of prohibition, the Jeevika programme and the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali campaign.
Pledges To Continue Nitish Kumar’s Work
During his address, Nishant Kumar said Nitish Kumar had demonstrated over the past 20 years that politics could be used as a means of bringing social change.
He said the government’s responsibility was to sustain this momentum and further strengthen Bihar’s development by continuing the work started under Nitish Kumar’s leadership.
Nishant Kumar also said that although Nitish Kumar has decided to move to the Rajya Sabha, his guidance would continue to inspire the government. He pledged to raise issues in the Legislative Council that serve the public interest.
Birthday Greetings From NDA Leaders
Monday also marked Nishant Kumar’s birthday. Leaders of the ruling NDA greeted him on his arrival at the House, and he thanked them for their wishes.
Earlier in the day, Nishant Kumar visited the Mahavir Mandir near Patna Junction with Nitish Kumar. The two offered prayers and sought blessings for peace, prosperity and the overall development of Bihar.
