Patna: Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, has said he will soon launch a “Jan Sunvayi” initiative aimed at addressing citizens’ grievances directly, as he formally joined the Janata Dal (United) at the party’s state headquarters on Friday.
Kumar was inducted as an active member of the JD(U) by the party’s acting national president. The move marks a more visible political role for him within the organisation as the party prepares to strengthen its grassroots outreach across the state.
Speaking at the event, Kumar said he would work under the “sole guidance” of Nitish Kumar and reiterated his intention to align his activities with the chief minister’s political and administrative approach. Party leaders, including senior figures from the JD(U), attended the induction ceremony.
Following his induction, Kumar held a meeting with district and block-level presidents from the Tirhut division, where discussions focused on organisational strategy and strengthening the party’s presence at the local level.
He announced plans to launch a “Jan Sunvayi” programme in the coming weeks, under which members of the public would be able to directly raise complaints and seek redressal of issues. He said the initiative would be designed to ensure “immediate” attention to grievances, though no formal structure or timeline for implementation was outlined.
Kumar also urged party functionaries to actively communicate the government’s work over the past two decades, particularly Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s development agenda, governance model and welfare programmes, to households across Bihar. He called on district and block presidents to take these messages to the grassroots and expand public engagement.
He expressed confidence that public support for the chief minister, which he described as built on years of trust and goodwill, would continue in the future.
Emphasising organisational continuity, Kumar said he intended to follow what he described as Nitish Kumar’s tradition of inclusive politics within the party. He added that he would work to carry senior leaders, long-time workers and grassroots cadres along as part of efforts to strengthen the organisation.
According to Kumar, the proposed Jan Sunvayi programme would allow citizens to directly approach him with grievances, which he said would be addressed promptly. He also encouraged district and block-level party leaders to establish similar mechanisms in their respective areas to ensure quicker resolution of local issues.
Senior JD(U) leaders, including state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, Sanjay Kumar Singh, Lalan Saraf and Sanjay Jha, were present at the event.
