Patna: A sudden thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds and lightning swept through Patna, disrupting normal life and causing power outages in several parts of the city, though electricity supply has since been restored in some areas.
High-speed gusts damaged temporary rooftops and scattered objects across roads, while falling debris was reported from multiple localities. Thunder and lightning continued across the city as residents reported disruption to essential services.
Officials said electricity supply, which was snapped in many areas during the storm, has begun to resume gradually in parts of the city, though restoration work is still under way elsewhere.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a statewide alert, warning of adverse weather conditions over the next 48 hours. All 38 districts in Bihar are under alert, with an orange alert issued for 12 districts and a yellow alert for the remaining 26.

Districts under the orange alert may experience winds of up to 60 kmph along with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, while those under the yellow alert are likely to see light to moderate rain and lightning.
Meteorologists said the current weather pattern is expected to bring a drop in temperatures following recent heat conditions. Patna’s maximum temperature, which stood at around 35C, is likely to decline in the coming days.
In the past 24 hours, Jiradei in Siwan recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 14.9C, followed by Dehri in Rohtas at 17.5C.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning activity, as unstable weather conditions persist across the state.
